The Center for Democratic Transition - CEDET (Centar za demokratsku
tranziciju) was founded in November 2000 and began work in December
2000 in Belgrade, Serbia, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The common
work of the founding members of CEDET concerned with articulating the
project "Institutional framework, socioeconomic transformation
and political culture in FRY (Serbia and Montenegro) and Croatia"
had started more than a year before the formal registration, namely
in September 1999.
CEDET is a non-governmental, nonprofit, educational and scientific
research organization, founded by teachers working at the University
of Belgrade and the University of Novi Sad. Members of the Center are
jurists, sociologists, economists, historians and other independent
experts.
The basic aim of CEDET is to contribute, with its programs, projects
and entire public activity to the advancement and practical implementation
of ideas of human rights, the rule of law, modern market economy and
an open and democratic society in the region of Southeast Europe. The
basic activity of CEDET is comparative analysis of transitional processes
in states and societies of Central and East Europe, and especially in
the countries formed after the breakdown of Socialist Federal Republic
Yugoslavia (SFRY).
Types of activities planned by CEDET are parallel/complementary
theoretical and empirical investigations of transitional processes,
publishing of books, organizing conferences, seminars, summer schools,
and media presentation of the work.
The Director of CEDET is Dr Dragica Vujadinovic-Milinkovic, Professor
of the Law School, University of Belgrade; the Vice-Director is Dr Aleksandar
Molnar, Professor of The Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade;
and the President of the Program Council is Dr Vladimir Goati, Senior
Research Fellow, Institute of Social Sciences, University of Belgrade.
